[This site is under construction]
This webpage hosts GIS base layers that were used in the mapping analysis for a paper currently in peer review, Mapping Peatland Extent and Condition in the Contiguous United States to Inform Peatland Protection and Restoration, available as a preprint here.
In some cases, we have included more recent map layers to make the map more accurate for current users.
How to use now: Currently you can use the map to explore the peatland extent and condition data for a particular site of interest. For example, you can turn on layers for land use, roads, ditches, railroads, protection status, and NRCS conservation easements for a particular site to begin to understand potential opportunities and challenges.
What to expect in the future: This site will be home for additional mapping projects, including updated maps derived from new remote sensing analyses, as well as map-aided decision support tools and restoration guides that should enable informed decision-making for land managers or policy makers.
